Meta Platforms stated that it will start to apply AI chat interactions to personalize the content and advertising in its apps, such as Facebook and Instagram, starting December 16, 2025. The change will effect users who interact with Meta AI, the generative AI assistant of the company, whether via text or voice.

Meta says that these interactions between AI and the existing user information, including likes, follows, or a history of activity, will be used to further refine Reels, posts, and ad recommendations. Dynamically, say a user talks to Meta AI about hiking, they will subsequently see hiking groups, updates about hiking trails with friends, or outdoor equipment advertisements.

Christy Harris, the privacy policy manager of Meta, said: The interactions of people will merely be another ingredient that will be included to personalize feeds and advertisements.

Notifications + Rollout Timeline

Meta assured that it will inform the users about the change on or after October 7, 2025. Significantly, those who use the Meta AI will not have the choice not to be updated on this personalization.

Most parts of the world will start in December 16, although it will not roll out in the United Kingdom, the European Union, and South Korea because of the differences in regulations. As time goes by, Meta will extend the feature to other markets.
